The Adelante Con Camp Perry Campaign is a major gifts and capital campaign to raise dollars to rebuild Camp Perry.

The campaign goal is $6.1 million, authorized by the Rio Grande Council board in September 2016 after a feasibility study.

The dollars will be used to build 18 new facilities, 12 pavilions, 3 refurbished facilities, a new swimming pool, improved infrastructure, seed monies for a full-time ranger, a facility endowment and a campership endowment. See the full project list.

The signature facility is an air-conditioned dining hall of 9,500 sq ft featuring large porches overlooking the Arroyo Colorado. In addition, a 6,000 sq ft health and fitness facility, a new swimming pool and much more are planned.

Camp Perry is envisioned as the premier camp in the Rio Grande Valley. Camp experiences are widely recognized for building leadership skills and producing positive, life-changing experiences for young people.

Camp Perry is a camp owned and operated by the Rio Grande Council of Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America). It is the oldest continuously operating Boy Scout camp in Texas. It was acquired in 1927, marked its 90th anniversary in 2017 and reaches its centennial in 2027.

Activities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, archery, rifle and shotgun shooting, BMX, hiking, nature study, handicrafts, STEM and more. See Programs.

Campaign planners expected annual usage of over 15,000 youth per year once all facilities are built.

No. Planners expected about one-third of all participants to be outside groups like Boys & Girls Clubs, church groups, school groups and other nonprofits. Reservations go through the council.

Many factors determine cost, such as meals and length of stay. In 2017 campaign materials, the cost for a Scout to attend camp for a full week was $220. Current fees are set by the council — check the official Camp Perry page.

The campaign aimed to raise $100,000 for camperships to help youth attend camp, plus a larger campership endowment. Ask your unit leader and the council about assistance.

Registration and reservations are handled only by the Rio Grande Council through its website and reservation form. This site cannot take registrations or payments.

The council’s Camp Perry page lists some activity add-ons (for example shotgun, BMX bikes, canoes and kayaks at $5 per person, with rifle pricing on request). Confirm current pricing with the council.
