Over the decades since, the camp has provided fun and memories for youth from far and wide, and it continues to make a difference in young people’s lives every year. With almost a century in the making, Camp Perry is home to many exciting activities that instill the values of Scouting — equipping young people with the tools they need to succeed in today’s society.

From a family land gift to a modern camp preparing for its centennial.
A council is born
Volunteers travel to Dallas to receive the charter for what becomes the Rio Grande Council. In November 1926 they hold the first meeting in La Feria, Texas, to select the first Scout Executive.
It all started with one man
Charles F. Perry donates several parcels of land belonging to his family to the Boy Scouts of America. Camp Perry is acquired just one year after the council receives its charter.
Generations of Valley youth
Summer after summer, Scouts from Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy and Zapata counties — and visitors from far away — learn skills, earn merit badges and make memories on the Arroyo Colorado.
A feasibility study and a bold decision
In September 2016, after concluding a feasibility study, the council’s board authorizes a $6.1 million capital campaign named “Adelante Con Camp Perry!”
90th anniversary
Camp Perry marks 90 years as the oldest continuously operating Boy Scout camp in Texas. Pre-campaign commitments exceed expectations and the Alumni Association launches its charter drive.
Ground breaking & construction
The new dining hall breaks ground. Contractors complete underground plumbing and electrical rough-ins, formwork and grade-beam rebar as construction moves quickly.
A new name for Scouting
The Boy Scouts of America officially becomes Scouting America, continuing its mission for both young men and young women.
The centennial
Camp Perry’s 100th year — a milestone for the camp, the council and every family that has called it their camping home.
Honoring the past, building the future
Heritage
Camp Perry predates most camps in Texas. Its landmarks — the entrance palms, the chapel, the arroyo waterfront — are shared memories across generations.
Renewal
The Adelante Con Camp Perry campaign set out to replace aging buildings with modern, accessible, air-conditioned facilities.
Legacy
Endowments for maintenance and camperships are designed to keep camp affordable and well cared for long after construction ends.
