1. Who we are

This website, located at https://www.campperrybsa.com/, is an independent community, alumni and information resource about Camp Charles F. Perry in Rio Hondo, Texas. It is run by a small volunteer editorial team based in Texas, USA. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean the operators of this website, and "you" means anyone who visits or uses it.

We are not Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America) or the Rio Grande Council, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by either organization. Camp registrations, fees, dates and donations are handled by the council through its own website, which has its own privacy policy. For more on our independence, see our Disclaimer.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to information collected through campperrybsa.com, including its pages, contact form and newsletter sign-up. It does not apply to other websites we link to, or to camp registrations, payments or donations made with the council, which are covered by that organization's own policies.

3. Information we collect

Information you give us

We only receive personal information when you decide to send it to us.

• Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), the topic of your message, group type and group size (optional), a preferred date if you are asking about a visit or event, your message, and a record that you checked the consent box.
• Newsletter sign-up: your email address only.
• Emails you send us: your address and whatever you choose to include.

Please do not include sensitive information, such as health details or ID numbers, in a form or email.

Information collected automatically

When your browser requests a page, our hosting provider's servers may automatically record standard technical information in server logs, such as your IP address, browser and device type (user agent), the page requested and the date and time. The host keeps these logs for security, troubleshooting and abuse prevention. We do not use them to profile visitors or track you across websites.

Information stored on your own device

The site uses your browser's local storage and session storage for three small, functional purposes: remembering your choice on the cookie notice, saving your progress in the interactive packing checklist, and passing your first name from the contact form to the thank-you page. This information stays in your browser and is not sent to us. Details are in our Cookie Policy.

Information we do not collect

• No analytics, advertising networks, social media pixels or third-party tracking cookies.
• No third-party scripts, fonts or embedded media; all site files are self-hosted.
• No user accounts, and no payments or donations, so we never receive card or bank details.
• No precise location, biometric or other sensitive personal information.

4. How we use information

We use the information we collect only for these purposes:

• To respond to you: answering your questions or pointing you to the right contact at the council.
• To send newsletter updates: occasional emails about site news, articles, camp history and community updates, only if you signed up. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe.
• To keep the site secure and working: through the hosting provider's server logs, to detect abuse, spam or technical problems.
• To meet legal obligations: for example, responding to a valid legal request or keeping a record of a privacy request we handled.

We do not sell your personal information, "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, use it for targeted advertising, or use it for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

5. Legal bases for processing (EU and UK visitors)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Consent: for newsletter emails and for processing contact form submissions you choose to send with the consent box checked. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Legitimate interests: for replying to emails you send us directly and for basic security logging.
• Legal obligation: where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only in these limited situations:

• Service providers: companies that help us run the site, such as our web host and the email and form-delivery services that carry contact messages and newsletters. They may only use your information to provide their services to us.
• With your permission: if you ask us to pass your question to the council or another organization. Often, we will simply give you their contact details instead.
• Legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena or court order, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect someone's safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or defend our legal rights.
• Change in operator: if the website moves to a new operator, information may transfer with it, and the new operator must honor this policy.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above; section 6 lists typical periods. After that, we delete it or make it anonymous, unless the law requires us to keep it longer. You may ask us to delete your information sooner at any time (see section 12).

9. Cookies and browser storage

This site does not set advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies. It uses a few items in your browser's local storage and session storage for functions you choose to use. Our Cookie Policy lists each item, what it does and how long it lasts, and explains how to clear it.

10. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Because we do not track visitors across websites, our practices are the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. Since we do none of these things, the site already behaves this way for every visitor.

11. Children's privacy

We welcome young readers, but the site is not directed at children under 13 for the purpose of collecting personal information, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, as defined by the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our forms are meant for parents, guardians and adult leaders.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information, please email [email protected]. We will delete it promptly. For visitors in the EU or UK, we likewise do not knowingly process personal data of children below the age of digital consent in their country without parental authorization.

12. Your privacy rights

Rights for all visitors

Wherever you live, you can ask us what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, free of charge.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, California residents have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and receive a copy of it.
• Request deletion of personal information we collected from you.
• Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share it and have not done so in the past 12 months.
• Limit the use of sensitive personal information, which we do not collect.
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

In the past 12 months, we may have collected identifiers (such as name, email, phone number and IP address), limited internet activity in server logs, and the content of your messages, as described in sections 3, 4 and 7.

Texas residents (TDPSA)

The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act gives Texas residents the right to confirm whether we process their personal data and access it, correct inaccuracies, delete personal data provided by or obtained about them, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of targeted advertising, sale of personal data and certain profiling. We do not sell personal data, engage in targeted advertising or conduct such profiling. If we decline your request, you may appeal (see section 13). If your appeal is denied, you may contact the Office of the Texas Attorney General.

Residents of other US states

Several other states have similar laws. We extend the same access, correction, deletion, portability and opt-out rights to residents of every state, whether or not a particular law applies to a small, noncommercial site like ours.

EU and UK visitors (GDPR and UK GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, rectify or erase your personal data; restrict or object to its processing; receive it in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that happened before. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.

13. How to exercise your rights

1. Email [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy request" and tell us what you would like us to do.
2. Send your request from the email address you used with us, or tell us which address to look up, so we can verify that the information is yours. We will not ask for more information than we need.
3. We will confirm receipt and respond within 45 days (or within one month for EU and UK requests). If we need more time, we will tell you why, as the law allows.

Authorized agents: an authorized agent may make a request for you; we may ask for proof of their authority.

Appeals: if we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the subject line "Privacy appeal". We will respond in writing within 60 days and explain our reasons.

Unsubscribing: use the link at the bottom of any newsletter email.

14. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. The site is served over encrypted HTTPS, access to our inbox and email tools is limited to the editorial team and protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication where available, and we keep only what we need. Because the site is static with no accounts, there is far less to expose than on a typical website. Still, no system is completely secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and any authorities as required by law.

15. International visitors

We are based in the United States. If you contact us from another country, your information will be processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ. Where required, we rely on safeguards offered by our providers, such as standard contractual clauses.

16. Links to other websites

Our pages link to other websites, including the Rio Grande Council, scouting.org and government resources. When you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies, and we are not responsible for its practices.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. We will post the updated version here with a new effective date. For significant changes, such as collecting a new type of information, we will add a clear notice to the site and, where appropriate, email newsletter subscribers before the change takes effect.
